The best head massage routine

So, in part 1/3 of this week’s special release of Valentine’s Day inspired blogs, I present to you the bestest ever head massage routine…and you only need one tool…yourself!

You may or may not remember that in my blog on ‘ways to get your curl pattern back’, I very comfortably made this statement:

‘So now I present to you my most recently discovered mechanism for getting your more natural curl pattern back. This requires no heat whatsoever but you will definitely need the following: a good moisturiser and sealant (please see my first ever blog post for some of my favourite recommendations if you are perplexed on where to begin with your head of hair); to ensure the maximum moisturisation levels for your headtop, a sturdy wide tooth comb to use when you most desire (this will ensure that when you finger curl your hair strands they are less likely to get knotted and cause breakage) and preferably an already favourite selected protective style to get some pre-definition from your curls before you begin finger curling but after you have taken this style out’

Now whether you actually tried and replicated this method or not is again based on whether you did it or not but what I want you to remember as you (hopefully) continue reading this blog is that a similar mechanism really does apply to being able to give you the best head massage ever.

For clarity, you may be wondering why I haven’t yet attached an image of one of those spidery looking head scratchers with a website link and although I have tried those many times in the store very much for my own satisfaction, this is more of a spur of the moment suggestion or instant solution to scalp pain as opposed to getting up and purchasing a head scratcher to try and wake your friend up with at a sleepover. However, if anyone reading this indeed wants to buy me a head scratcher, I am size small (I think!)

Right so for the actual method…

Step 1: Take your hair out of a hair ties or bands, and just let it hang loose. If you have braids or any other kind of protective style in, then you will need to find the access points to your scalp that won’t dismantle your hair design.

Step 2: Work out if the purpose for you needing a head massage falls into any of the following reasons: a) For your own enjoyment, b) Because you are experiencing minor head/scalp pain, or c) Because you are experiencing discomfort – Be mindful that if you are experiencing extreme head pain overall either emerging from your scalp specifically, parts of your head or your entire head in general, that it is best to call the emergency medical services to make sure that there are no severe underlying issues. Alternatively, if you find that touching the problem areas utilising this method does seem to ease the pain, then you are in the right place -

- If you fit into the category (a), then for your own enjoyment, follow (b) and (c) respectively

- If you fit into the category (b), then untying your hair is a great first step and this is because it allows for less pressure on the hair follicles at your scalp and enhances the adherence to the structure we will be doing in the third and final step

- If you fit into the category (c), then I would definitely advise assessing the cause of your discomfort – in blogs to come, I will be speaking more in depth about hair problems that can cause major discomfort but some of the problems may include: itchiness, dryness, dandruff, oiliness etc. – Thus: this is where I would crucially advise being careful of the level of pressure you apply to completing this method as to avoid further itchiness, dandruff etc., that can result in the breakage of your hair. If you are conscious of hair breakage; most concerningly in the case of having dry hair, then consider utilising this method with an oil for pre-pooing (pre-shampooing), before washing to try and get the moisture back.

Step 3: What you want to do here is track the length of your hair. Why? (Hint: My first ever blog on the 7 tips for growing thick and healthy hair, explains why) –

‘5. When washing your hair, run the shampoo and conditioner through the length of your hair rather than only scrunching it at the scalp as this can tangle your hair strands’

Of course that tip is about washing hair but the same really applies regardless of your decision to wash or not. You want to track the length of your hair starting by using your fingers around your scalp by mildly scratching and bunching it up and then gently running your fingers along the length of your hair to stretch out all of your hair strands as much as possible. Repeat this until you feel the pain of your scalp and head ease and avoid putting pressure on your hair follicles for the next few hours at least.

That is it, and I thoroughly hope you enjoyed reading how it works and will implement it somehow into your hair routine.

Thank you so much for reading this if you made it to the end and stay blessed my dears

-Love K xx
