The most unheard of hand cream

Hey guys and gals. Hope you are all well. I know it’s been a minute but I have really been going through the motions behind the scenes and figuring out the direction that I want to move these blogs in and honestly, every day is completely different and we can never fully be able to predict the future but to say that I wish to give up on this endeavour would simply be a lie and thus, I am continuing to soldier on, with 3 blogs to bless your lovely eyes and minds to begin my comeback with.

Today’s first blog will be able the most rogue and almost bottom barrel mechanism for getting rid of eczema and dry skin on your hands and whilst I have had to search high and low for the medical backing to justify why it is a very good idea, it is also very much based on common sense. So what is it…

Vaseline on the bottom layer (directed to the problem areas), with practically any hand cream on as a top layer (opting for the less irritating ones).

Facts about Vaseline:

Typically termed as the best quick solution for dry, chapped lips or (less commonly) swollen and itchy eyelids, because it prevents further tears, cracks and irritation overall

Petroleum jelly is the very substance in Vaseline so even if you don’t necessarily purchase the Vaseline ‘brand’ for your uses, petroleum jelly in the cosmetic form is ultimately what you are looking for and what is the most important entity.

It contains chemicals that make up a myriad of hydrocarbons (petrolatum and white petrolatum – thick greasy substance with no odour) which allowed for Vaseline to be termed as a ‘cure for-all mineral oil’, in its early developmental stages and I would definitely argue that it has lived up to its name in regard to that.

I am about 100% sure that these veterans may have also used Vaseline to keep their hair intact as it is a very good product for taming hair and its various straggly concerns, including split ends, unnecessary frizz and the like.

Beauty hack (as featured on my Tiktok account - @ktpresentz): Brown lip liner on your lips combined with Vaseline as a make shift lip gloss when you are tired of having to re-apply it continuously on a night out, is really the best way forward, affordable and gives you that clean makeup look every time.

Benefits of Vaseline for treating irritations on hands specifically:

It’s affordable and a sealant – This is achieved on the basis of it preventing transepidermal water loss as well as through keeping wounds and cuts moist to prevent future rupture, damage or irritations as well as drying (and subsequently, forming a scab)

It has multi purposes – During WWII, Vaseline acted as a pomade; which if effectively used, is able to style hair and can hydrate the scalp and prevent irritation in general from bacteria entering and remaining on the scalp in excessive amounts.

**A BRIEF WARNING** - If you are allergic to Vaseline then using it on your body is not a good idea which is why it is not only good to patch test on a stronger part of skin (back of ear) to see the effects on your skin but also check the ingredients as some people have higher skin sensitivity to fragrance scented products (of which Vaseline has a lot off), so you may want to look at purchasing fragrance free Vaseline products as opposed to the ones containing fragrance

It also may not be the best idea to put Vaseline around your nose, particularly for children, on account of allergies to the mineral oils increase the risk of suffering from aspiration pneumonia.

PLEASE MAKE SURE that before you apply Vaseline onto your hands especially; as well as other body parts where you may deem application necessary, that you have properly cleaned and disinfected the problem area to prevent the risk of suffering from antibacterial infections.

It is also further not advised to apply Vaseline directly after suffering from a minor burn although it acts as an occlusive (prevents moisture from skin escaping), aloe vera is better advised in these circumstances. Please consider allergies and consult a dermatologist if in doubt, however, before proceeding to apply this.

From multiple detailed analyses into the many uses and benefits and shortcomings of utilising the product in question, it has been continuously advised that Vaseline may not necessarily be suitable for those who suffer with acne as if you have oily skin. This is because it can trigger more production of acne despite its non-comedogenic qualities and also, isn’t particularly effective in treating acne as its main purpose is to prevent moisture loss, as opposed to provide moisture.

The specific steps:

1. Gather your Vaseline. I would recommend going for one with little to no fragrance and without a tint or flavour – as the chance of you having a reaction to the fragrance in the product gets minimised drastically.

2. Apply your Vaseline directly onto the problem areas (most specifically, on hands), taking a reasonable amount for all specific areas to ensure that your skin is moisturised but not overly greasy. I have provided a tutorial below.

3. Once you have applied your Vaseline to your problem areas, apply your chosen moisturiser over the top and then leave your hands to sit for about 10 minutes so that the products applied can seep into the skin [view in tutorial]. Try to avoid using the toilet during this time or doing much activity around your environment, so that the product doesn’t leave your skin or get washed off. In this case, it is advisable to do it before bed.

4. Assess the problem area around 12 hours after application and apply 24 hours again after the last application if it still has not gone away. You should notice a reduction in itching and the appearance of the general rash area, but please do be aware that you may not see results straight away. That being said, practising this daily for around 2-3 weeks could alternatively result in the problem area being completely healed without having to seek further medical assistance.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you found this blog informative and helpful in some way, there will be lots more coming your way so stay tuned and stay blessed.
